Understanding Your Grief: Support Group For Fathers

August 17, 2021 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Pre-registration is required! Please email [email protected] or call 480-734-3423 to see if this is the right group for you!

While the pain of our losses may never lessen, it is possible for us to find purpose and meaning in a new version of our lives – to grow around and through our grief.

Growth means:

  •     Encountering pain
  •     Embracing change
  •     Exploring our assumptions about life
  •     Finding a new inner balance with no endpoints

This new Men’s Group, starts Tuesday, August 17, 2021 specifically for Men ready to explore their personal grief journey over loss of a child at any age.

We will base our conversation on The Six Needs of Mourning as defined by Dr. Alan Wolfelt.  We will identify new, individual goals free from the self-imposed limitations of our lives before our losses and support one another in attaining them.

Need 1: Acknowledging the reality of death

Need 2: Embracing the pain of loss

Need 3: Remembering the person who died

Need 4: Developing a new self-identity

Need 5: Searching for meaning

Need 6: Receiving ongoing support from others

This group is open to men who have lost a child or stepchild of any age to substance abuse, suicide, or other sudden trauma.

The group is planned as a Zoom meeting format to accommodate members outside Arizona.  We will meet weekly from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, Arizona-time (8:30-10:00 PM, EST).

Cost for new members for this Men’s Group will be $45, to cover reading materials and a journal.  Please sign up at EricsHouse.org.  This group will be facilitated by Greg Eckerman and co-facilitated by Ken Slesarik.   If you have any questions, contact Greg at [email protected] or 480-734-3423(M). Scholarships are available.   If you have participated in previous groups and have the book “Understanding your Grief” by Dr. Alan Wolfelt, please use the following code when registering “HEARTFUL”.

Greg is an engineer by training.  He spent much of his career working in the aerospace industry and then became a business process improvement (BPI) consultant, working internationally in a wide variety of industries.

After his youngest stepson Eric died by suicide, Greg struggled to express and deal with his grief – as many men do.  Long-held priorities seemed less significant and he found the need to explore new values in his search for meaning and purpose.

Greg and Marianne, Eric’s Mom, founded EricsHouse in 2017.  Since then, he has become a Grief Specialist, leads EricsHouse Men’s Groups and retreats, and has designed and built a variety of memorial landscaping projects at EricsHouse.

He still works as a BPI consultant when the right projects come along.
