We are not psychologists or counselors; we are peers in loss – with personal experience in loss of a loved one to suicide or substance. Peer-led grief support, grounded in the model advocated by Dr. Alan Wolfelt, brings together individuals who have experienced loss to support one another through shared understanding and compassionate presence. Rather than offering advice or solutions, peers create a safe, respectful space to acknowledge the reality of grief, express feelings openly, and find meaning over time. This approach honors grief as a natural response to loss and emphasizes companionship, validation, and hope through connection with others who truly understand.
Our facilitators have been trained in person by Dr. Wolfelt. Our Grief Companions completed five (or more) of Dr. Wolfelt’s courses (150 hours) and been awarded the “Death and Grief Studies Certification.”
